| MacNeill Goes on Rampage Against Red Sox Sunday, August 29th, 2010: It wasn't poetic justice.
Tony MacNeill of the Rays had a terrific 5-hit game today, really socking it to the Boston Red Sox, but his team didn't win the game.
In the clubhouse after the 13-8 loss, he moaned to the press, "Hey, I don't want to sound ungrateful, but something is missing here. When you have a great game you should win the game, too."
And he definitely had an unforgettable day in the batter's box, ripping out 5 hits in 5 at-bats.
The manager for the Rays sympathized with his third baseman and told BNN reporters after the game, "Tony played a whale of a game, but sometimes individual brilliance is not enough to win... baseball is a team sport... it takes more than just one player to win a game."
Tony MacNeill singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
In his stats this season, MacNeill has posted a batting average of .254 with 90 hits in 355 at-bats, 10 home runs and 41 RBIs. He has also scored 40 runs, walked 33 times and compiled a .322 OBP. | |
